Waiting For Spring

In lieu of lovely blooms in my garden, which seem to be slow on the move, I snapped photos of a bunch of Tulips snagged from Trader Joes the other day ....

Waiting for Spring .....

A chill wind blows from the foot of the driveway
the sky's bright blue but not sun enough
to warm the vaguely sprouting daffodils
and so, green they stay

inside, a smear of hot pink and yellow
adorns the window's sill
a treat,
bought to serve as incentive perhaps
for the daff's to follow...

The Blue Night of Winter

"The Blue Night of Winter"
 

The cold chilly wind rips through branches bare,

winter's light falls on hard ground.

Snow missed but not lamented

knowing it will come soon enough.

Time to enjoy the sparkle of stars

that kick at cold clouds

dancing across the bright night sky.

that make your senses ring

much taped and torn

some high brow and expensive

amidst edges of winter worn

the City beckons

her music calls

and on each kerb corner

you can sing

or dance

in tune with the rest

of the pedestrians

as Spring unfurls.

Through Windows

Glass
Words of  a poem

should be glass
But glass so simple-subtle its shape
Is nothing but the shape of what it holds.

A glass spun for itself is empty,
Brittle, at best Venetian trinket.
Embossed glass hides the poem of its absence.

Words should be looked through, should be windows.
The best word were invisible.
The poem is the thing the poet

thinks.

If the impossible were not,
And if the glass, only the glass,
Could be removed, the poem would remain.

I love this poem and thought it married well with the digital image I created using photographs of windows that I took whilst in Las Vegas.

A few more snaps from the weekend

I think my camera had as much fun as I did this weekend!  The location of the workshop I took was down by the "Meat Packing District" and Greenwich Village.  Lots of fabulous funky old buildings, heaps of graffiti and textures that were just ripe for the snapping!

The odd ball is the top pic, one that was taken after we had participated in a fun, out of the box sort of exercise that Lynne had us do!  Amazing what was created out of nothing!

And to close for tonight, a piece of poetry by one of my favourites, Kahlil Gibran
Appropriate, as regardless of what I am doing, the boys are always foremost in my thoughts...
