Illustration Friday - Broken

No, I can assure you I don't have any strange, unusual, weird or otherwise, fetishes.  This is just what popped out of the empty space in my head to meet the theme of "Broken" for this week's Illustration Friday challenge.

Going Postal

I recently received an order for a collage sheet of faux postage from a someone who collects artistamps.  While corresponding with the gentleman he asked if I created other artistamps and in fact, I do. 
My fictional friend "Tam" - who continues to gain strength and character behind the scenes - in fact lives on a tiny speck of earth called "Amora Island"
These are some of the postage stamps that can be found on Tam's correspondence.

A'journalling we'll go..

When I get into the tactile groove, there seems to be no stopping.  The last few days have been spent felting and sewing and then at night I have been doing more of what I used to do- creating pages in my art journal (and NOT on the 'puter). 

It's all fun - part of the seasons and cylcles of change no doubt!

Funky Felt

An afternoon's worth of fun with the spoils from the previous day's shopping bonanza at the Fiber Fair.

Three pieces of felt are long and narrow and will suitable for using as lovely  colourful winter scarves.  The fourth piece is wider and heavier and going to be used to used to make a shoulder bag.

Fiber Fantasy

Saturday was Road Trip time with the primary destination being the annual Fiber Fair held just outside of Ashville.  Along the way we managed a stop at Random Arts in Saluda to visit with Jane (the proprietor) and to do a little replenishing of the 'cant live without' art supplies.

After a pleasant hour visiting with the gals at Random ARts we headed back up I-26 and arrived shortly after at the Fair.  WOWza!...what fun!  As much wool, fibre, batting, roving, kewl tools and machines than any creative person could wish for - all in one space.

I primarily go to this event in search of delicious dyed wool to incorporate into felt projects.  I was not disappointed and also managed to stash away a reasonable? amount of spun yarn and ribbons for the fabric art supply department.  I sourced a few more nifty tools for small scale weaving and generally ejoyed a luverly sensory overload with all the colours, sights and sounds that filled the huge pavillion.

Today of course...instead of cleaning out one of the bedrooms and working on house chores - I made FELT....what else would have been reasonable?
I'll post pics tomorrow when the pieces are dry and I can take some decent photos

Late Night Paper

A final Hurrah for the day as it's time for bed - but before I go, the just dry art journal page for tonight. 

This one is called "Half the Story" and is done  on paper with acrylics and bits of magazine images.  While I do get caught up in creating pieces with the digital tools, there are times when "scooping the goop" and getting my fingers dirty holds a certain appeal.

Tomorrow is an Away Day - and probably the last of the Play Days for a while.  DH and I are going to trip off into the wilds of NC and take in the Fiber Fair outside of Asheville and hopefully check out a few other haunts along the way.  I guess I should be A-nappin' now - given my absolute aversion to early morning rising!

Illustration Friday - Remote

This almost as remote as you can get before you reach the penguins in the South Pole - one of the inaccessible beaches right down on the south coast of Western Australia.

A change in the wind

A page from my "Late Night" paper journal that I created in the wee small hours of this morning!

And, yes, Changes are in the wind.  Seems like we will be moving back to the North East sometime in the next few months and for those who know me well, believe me, this will have me Happy Dancing all the way to the Moon and back!!  Mind you, I will have to remember to temper my enthusiasm with some sort of reality check  - as this move will be fraught with an enormous amount of variables, not the least of which will be trying to find a house without being there to ACTUALLY house hunt!!!

Anyone know of a perfect place for a crazy art person, 5 cats a dog and a hubbie who has to commute to Wilmington, DE?

In the Pink

Mmm, Mmm.. ..I am so in love with Retro colours!  They make a fine departure from my usual comfort zone of jewel tones and goldy reds that often predominate my other artwork.

Using them as blocks and solids in digital art is fun and easy.  It's pretty much the same style that I slip into when I make my rubber stamp designs and creating pieces like this, that I use for Mail ARt is no exception.

Apart from playing with my Pink piece, today seemed to pass in a flurry of home and mail chores.  My local Post Office is really good to me.  They dont mind that I arrive with assorted packages, often requiring lots of scanning and customs forms and we always manage a quick chat about the postcards and artwork that adorns all the stuff that they need to stamp.  I think secretly they get as much fun out of the Mail ARt as I do!! ^5's for the Postie Boys!
