I got my new Quilting Arts Magazine in the mail yesterday. What a yummy issue! One of the articles that caught my eye and inspired me to head off to my sewing machine was to do with abstracting images from photos and turning them into fabric art.
I trolled through my photos and decided to use a picture that I took in London in February of a big ole red door and experiment with the idea.
I bumped the image around in Photoshop and then printed the base image onto fabric. Attached some quilt backing and then picked out all the hard black lines with the sewing machine, also using a couple of other colours for the interior of the door and a few other other spaces. The edges have been bound off with some funky Indian fabric that I garnered a while ago at a market in Fremantle in Aus.
The finished quilt will need some tabs for hanging and maybe a bit of tweaking here and there, but all in all I like how it turned out and the technique was a lot of fun to play with. It was also nice to re-acquaint myself with my machine.
Wow! REALLLLLLY nice! Good Feng shui too!!!

I like what you created. It's very colorful and I have the feeling I could walk up those steps and through the red door.
