53F + Sunny = Roadtrip!!!!! Yay!
We headed off the the NY Armory Art Show today to enjoy some 1000 differing view points on what might be considered "ART" and what might be perceived as something else entirely! The show is always an 'eye opener' and the $30 admission per person ensures that DH and I have something to talk about for at least a few days!
This year the 'noir' clad crowd was no less thin, the sotto voce conversation abundant as everyone meandered around thousands of square feet of artistic expression that varied in genre from the traditional to the revolting (depending on your own taste) to those that were simply 'perplexing' - which I suppose MUST be the point - "dahling"
The most astonishing conclusions of this year's excursion to the Armory would have to be that Color Theory is obviously no longer taught, that messy gray is very much in vogue, that Art Dealers must have some other source of income and that there really is a LOT of very pleasing eye candy out there on the Internet!
Don't get me wrong, its a fabulous experience to see all these 'avant garde"? creations and realising that there are NO boundaries in the Art world, which is, I think, a good thing....
however if you go to shop for a visually appealing little doodad to put on your living room wall, you are probably better off going to Pier 1!
Here's a small sampling! What do you think about the COW sculpture? And the Pink Bunny?????
The more you learn about arts history the easier it is to understand.
Thank you for sharing this.
I believe that creative expression is a wonderful reflection of society... worts and all.
best wishes

Oh my. Some, but not all, of the art just immediately brings to mind the following quote (which is often incorrectly attributed to P.T. Barnum):
"It's quite true there's a fool born every minute. It's also quite true they don't die that fast."

You are too good to me. To show me these pictures. Holy moly! That looks like such a good time.

Oh dear! The dead animal assemblage is even more hideous than I visualized, I am not cool enough to even attempt to "get" it or the pink trashbag bunny rabbit. I do like the things in the 4th and 5th photos, and the blah blah blah sign is pretty cool. Picture six looks like a nasty stain you might find on your beige burber if you let a cow spend the night in your house (gasp).
Thanks for the little tour dahhhhling.

I'm with Vicki. I am getting more and more weary of exactly what she mentions: pretentiousness. I see it here in Toronto too. Then again, I know it's nothing new; always has been around and...sigh...always will be. And I'm with Deborah too .... there is a giggle there as well, although I'm sure I'm "not supposed" to find it all sooooo amusing!

Hmmmmmmm, how do I like it? Not so much, but the cow gave me a good giggle! Wishing you a lovely Sunday! **kisskiss** Deb

"Visually appealing" -- oh, my *dear*, that is NOT the point of Art!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any four-year-old can make something that is visually appealing.
No, no, we must have something that makes people ill when they view it. Or at the very least baffles them totally.
True Art can't be accessible, you know.
No true Artist makes things that any random fool can understand/enjoy!!!
If people don't have to exert effort to understand and appreciate ... well, it just can't be Art.
Don't you know.
Lol.......................
The pretentiousness of some people who think they are artists leaves me wondering whether I am more amused or more filled with ennui...................
:-) :-) :-)
