I learned tonight that one of my photographs has been juried into an exhibition here in Long Island - "Cultural Identity: Through The Lens"
Even though I volunteer at the Art League, it's a tough call to get work accepted there and so that makes this one even sweeter!
The pic' in question was captured whilst I was in Essaouira, Morocco - meandering down dusty alleys and hoping for that perfect snap of the lens, where I came across Jamal. He had an artsy shop, with intruiging wares to sell and although we talked a little in French for a while he was quite keen to show off his English and did quite a good job of it. However when I asked him to take a photo he became quite shy and in the end consented to pose only if he could pull his scarf over his face.
Having done that he insisted that he write his email address down and I should send him a copy of the picture - which I have since done and .... subsequently have a new "friend" on FB! What a small world!
I'm sure Jamal will be thrilled to know that he's going to rest on the walls of a Long Island Gallery for a few weeks of New York fame! It will up his Kudos in the Medina no end I'm sure!!
Juried in! This is beyond grooviness.
I know how difficult it is to get into the bits here in the san gabriel valley. YOU rock.
Now, I have to say... I don't remember your sharing this incredibly rich, textured, luminous piece here before.
What else you got hiding? huh? Let's have it.

I can see why they chose this photo; it's stunning. And, how cool that you're now a facebook friend with your model.
