A happy coincidence as I had already been working on this painting of a ballet student and her teacher.

Illio Friday - Deja Vu

It's a while since I submitted anything for Illustration Friday - so here you have an ode to the Snowy Blues.  The theme for the week was was "Deja Vu" - yep been there, done that, got the snowy Tshirt!

Illustration Friday - Artificial

Behind the scenes I am doing some boring Video chores, so while files were rendering and I was twiddling my thumbs I decided to "play" a little and create an entry for Illustration Friday.  Their theme this week is Artificial.  I think my Vintage Manga Mamma meets the criteria and it was fun to cook up a little bit of silliness.

It's ages since I contributed to Illustration Friday and I guess a day late and a dollar short, but better late than never!

I have been busy with my sons arriving from Australia and continuing to work on my online classes, which are going like gang busters.

Illustration Friday - Intricate

Illustration Friday's topic this week is "Intricate".

Not really sure why, but I decided to use an image of one of New York City's ballerinas as the basis for the digital collage I had in mind.  I took the photo of the City Ballet poster outside the Javit's Center a week or so ago.

I liked the simple outlines of the image once I'd pulled it out of the photograph and from there, well the complexities of the collage seemed to marry well with the theme of the week and speaks to the artisitc endeavour required to perform some of their amazing (and intricate) dances.

Illio Friday - Pale

I've missed taking up the challenge of participating in Illustration Friday for some time now, but it's back on my list of "Things to Do" for 2009

It's always a good creative prod to craft a piece of art to fit certain specifications...a bit like a commission really.

Anyway, this week's challenge is PALE and I borrowed one of Julia Margaret Cameron's lovely old photos to interpret in my own way.

Illustration Friday - Repair

This week's topic for Illustration Friday is Repair so it seems timely to create a piece of art that begs for us to fix the greatest of our World's ills - namely Peace!

This is also a particularly poignant topic for our Family, as we send the oldest of our sons off to  Afghanistan on Sunday.  This is not the first time Ryan has been deployed to the Middle East, he has already spent many, many months in Iraq and thankfully survived those experiences, physically at least.

I wish at some point the politicians would come to understand that the "right to life" does not just exist below the belt, but extends also to the the men and women of many nations who put themselves out there to fight as ordered, whether they believe the cause to be valid or not.

Ryan, we wish you Godspeed a safe journey and safe return.

Odd Objects and Curiosities

Like many Mixed Media Artists, I am a hoarder of many weird and wonderful objects.  Some more useful than others, and lots of them just "there" for the sake of interest.

Point in case being a single mannequin hand, somewhat battered and worn, but totally irresistible as a Flea Market find!

This week, it graces the Macro Day challenge for Fingers and Illustration Friday's "hoard" topic!.....perhaps useful after all!

Illustration Friday - Remote

This almost as remote as you can get before you reach the penguins in the South Pole - one of the inaccessible beaches right down on the south coast of Western Australia.
